Treating Dyslexia

The best-practice protocol for remediating dyslexia requires 200 minutes per week of intensive, individualized, one-on-one educational therapy. This individualized instruction remediates

  • the underlying cognitive processing deficits found during assessment
  • while simultaneously remediating deficits in reading, spelling, and writing.

Data-driven diagnosis, consultation, and treatment planning

  • Dyslexia diagnosis includes type, severity, and underlying causes.
  • The individual’s current skill levels in reading, spelling, and multiple cognitive functions (memory, phonological processing, visual-motor integration, visual perception, etc.) are assessed.
  • Testing takes 2½ to 3 hours.
  • Diagnosis and report are provided in consultation within two weeks.
  • Client can choose to pursue remediation.
  • Remediation involves weekly 2-hour, 1:1, in-clinic sessions with a certified dyslexia remediation specialist.
  • Therapy plans are prepared weekly, based on data taken in previous sessions.
  • Therapy activities are research-based activities proven to remediate specific skills (e.g. phonemic awareness, eye-tracking, auditory memory, etc.).
  • We use dyslexia-specific methods for learning sight words, pre-reading skills, and phonics.
  • Individualized Home Practice is also based on data taken in previous sessions. Home Practice involves a parent or caregiver, 4 days/week, 15-20 minutes on each of the 4 days.
  • We offer advanced reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing programs.
  • Re-evaluations occur after every 24 sessions (approximately 6 – 7 months).
  • Results at the first evaluation average 15 – 18 months’ fluency gain.
  • All materials are provided.
